Scheduling Your First Visit at Nassau County Jail: Step-by-Step
Scheduling your first visit comes down to timing: submit your request in the right window, pick the correct building and day, and show up during check-in so you don't lose your spot.
Nassau County Jail has a tight scheduling window. You must submit your request at least 24 hours ahead but no more than 5 days in advance. Same-day requests may be denied. Plan ahead - don't scramble the night before.
Requests are processed Monday through Friday during business hours, excluding holidays. Submit outside that window and you won't see movement until the next business day.
Your visit must match where your loved one is housed. Nassau County Jail only permits visits in the building the incarcerated person is currently in - requests for a different building get denied. Not sure which building they're in? Confirm that before you lock in a date.
The building also determines which days you can visit. "B" and "D" Building visits happen Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. "E" Building visits are Tuesday and Thursday only. Start with the building, then pick a day that's actually allowed.
- Register and use the online scheduled-visit system - Nassau County Jail uses an online registration/sign-up process for scheduled visits.
- Choose a date that fits the advance window - submit your request at least 24 hours ahead, and no more than 5 days out.
- Match the request to the correct building - visits are only allowed in the building where the incarcerated person is housed; other-building requests are denied.
- Pick a day that matches the building’s schedule - “B” and “D” Buildings are Monday/Wednesday/Friday only; “E” Building is Tuesday/Thursday only.
- Submit with processing time in mind - requests are processed during business hours Monday–Friday (holidays excluded), so don’t wait until the last minute.
Heads-up: Same-day requests may be denied, and walk-in visits are not permitted - build in at least a full day of lead time.
On visit day, give yourself a buffer. Arrive 15 minutes early to get through check-in without rushing - especially if there's a line.
There's also a hard cutoff: arrive no later than 1½ hours before the visiting session ends. Aim for "early" instead of "just on time" and you're much less likely to miss the check-in window.
Don’t miss check-in: If you don’t arrive during the listed check-in times, you will forfeit your visit.
If you're an attorney, you may notice conflicting guidance online. One page says attorneys can pre-schedule or walk in, while other guidance emphasizes that walk-ins aren't permitted and scheduled visits require 24 hours to 5 days advance notice. Because of this mismatch, verify the current attorney process before relying on walk-in access.
