Before Your First Visit to New Lisbon: What to Bring, What to Leave Behind
Your first visit goes smoother when you walk in with only what New Lisbon allows. Think of this as a quick packing guide—so you're not stuck returning things to your car or hunting for a locker at the last minute.
You can bring a small amount of money: up to $25 in currency, plus one debit or credit card per visitor. Medically necessary medication is allowed, but you won't keep it on you during the visit - leave it at the Visiting Room officer station when you arrive.
Keep outerwear simple. New Lisbon allows one coat and one pair of gloves per visitor, along with one facility locker key. Traveling light? These basics won't slow you down at the door.
Bringing paperwork that needs a signature? Tax papers and checks must be left at the Sergeant's desk at the start of your visit. Don't plan on carrying them with you during visitation.
Visiting with an infant or small child? New Lisbon allows a limited set of baby items in the visiting room. Stick to the allowed quantities and keep things minimal - bring more than permitted and you'll be storing extras in a locker or leaving them behind.
Anything you can't take into the visiting room needs to be secured first. Lockers are available in the lobby for 25 cents, and you'll get that quarter back at the end of your visit. Bring a couple quarters just in case - it'll save you stress.
When you arrive, your hand will be stamped in the lobby. Control staff check that stamp when you enter and leave the visiting room, so don't scrub it off or cover it up.
Some items are clearly off-limits: diaper bags, watches, cell phones, other internet
Planning to buy something during the visit? New Lisbon limits what you can carry in: up to $25 in currency and one debit or credit card per visitor. Bring only what you'll use and leave the rest secured outside.
Heads up: Money orders for the person in custody aren't accepted during visits. Send them through the mail instead.
Here's a rule that trips people up: documents needing a signature - especially tax papers or checks - must be left at the Sergeant's desk at the start of your visit. You can't bring them into the visiting room with you.

- Follow staff direction right away - if an item is flagged as a security or safety risk, you won’t be allowed to bring it into the visiting room.
- Secure it in a lobby locker if you can - use the lobby lockers for anything you need to store during the visit.
- Ask what your options are before you step away - staff can tell you whether the item must be stored or removed entirely.
- Get clarification after the visit if you need it - if you’re unsure what triggered the restriction, check with visiting-room staff later so you can plan better next time.
Staff can prohibit any item they determine poses a security or safety risk - even if it seems harmless to you. And some things are always banned: diaper bags, watches, cell phones, other internet
