How to Contact an Inmate at Facility

To message or send photos to someone in DOC custody who has an ICS tablet, you need a Getting Out account. You can set one up through the Getting Out app or on the Getting Out website. You'll also need to fund your account before you can send anything. If this is your first time, give yourself a little extra time. Create the account, make sure you've selected the right person, and add funds before trying to send a message or photo.

Note: ICSolutions is testing software that may allow messaging to be funded through an existing ICSolutions phone account instead. This is still a developing option, so verify what's actually available before you rely on it.

Steps to Follow

  • Create a Getting Out account (using the app or the Getting Out website).
  • Fund your Getting Out account before you try to send messages or photos to someone with an ICS tablet.

If the ICSolutions testing option is active where your loved one is housed, you may be able to fund your existing ICSolutions phone account to support messaging. Don't assume this is available everywhere. Confirm it first.

How to Contact an Inmate at Facility

Start by confirming that the person you're trying to reach actually has access to an ICS tablet. Messaging and photo sending through Getting Out only works for people in DOC custody who have one. Then verify the two requirements are still the same: you need a Getting Out account, and you need to fund it before sending messages. Policies and systems can change. A quick check can save you time and keep you from putting money in the wrong place.

  1. Ask whether the ICSolutions testing option is available at this facility, since it is not guaranteed to be active everywhere.
  2. If it is available, confirm exactly what is supported (for example, whether funding an existing ICSolutions phone account can be used for messaging).
  3. If it is not available, use Getting Out as documented by creating and funding a Getting Out account to send messages and photos to someone with an ICS tablet.
