New Lisbon Visiting Hours and When to Arrive (Avoid Being Turned Away)
New Lisbon Correctional Institution (NLCI) offers visiting Tuesday through Sunday, with different hours depending on the day. Tuesday through Friday, visits run from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and last up to 3 hours. On weekends, hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 2-hour limit. Planning around work or childcare? Think of weekdays as late afternoon and evening slots, weekends as morning through mid-afternoon. Keep the visit-length cap in mind too - showing up late eats into your time, and arriving too close to the end of visiting hours can get you turned away entirely.
- ✓ Make sure you’re on the approved visiting list - only approved visitors are permitted to visit.
- ✓ Keep your group size within the limit - the maximum number of visitors is ten.
- ✓ Bring a quarter for storage - lockers are available in the visitor lobby for 25 cents (refundable at the end of the visit).
NLCI caps how often someone can receive visits, so plan ahead before making the drive. Each person in custody can have one visit per day, up to three visits per week. Weekends come with an extra rule: only one visit per weekend. Even if you have visits remaining in your weekly total, you can't do both Saturday and Sunday. Many families work around this by using one weekend day plus up to two weekday visits.
Arriving too early creates problems at NLCI. Visitors can't be on facility grounds more than 15 minutes before visiting hours start - don't plan to show up an hour ahead and wait in the parking lot. Time your drive so you're pulling in close to when the visiting window opens.
Don't get turned away: NLCI won't admit visitors during the last hour of visiting - that's 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday–Friday and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday–Sunday. There's also a rule against entry within the last 30 minutes of a scheduled visit. When rules overlap, plan for the earlier cutoff. If you're unsure how this applies to your situation, ask visiting staff before you go.
- Time your arrival to the start of visiting - you won’t be allowed on facility grounds more than 15 minutes before visiting hours begin.
- Aim to be inside well before the last hour - NLCI states there’s no admittance one hour before visiting hours end (7:30 p.m. Tue–Fri; 2:30 p.m. Sat–Sun).
- Don’t count on last-minute entry - the facility also states entry isn’t permitted within the last 30 minutes of a scheduled visit, so arriving early in the visiting window is the safest way to protect your visit time.
NLCI is closed for visiting on Mondays, unless a holiday exception applies. If you're hoping to visit on a Monday due to a holiday schedule, confirm with the facility first - don't make the trip only to find the doors closed.
Got a timing question - like how cutoff rules work on a specific day? Ask the visiting area staff directly. The Visiting Room Sergeant and Visiting Room Security Liaison handle visiting-area questions. For visiting-list or unit-related issues, contact the Visiting List/Unit Social Worker/Visiting Clerk or the Unit Manager.
