Visitation

What You Can (and Can't) Bring Into the NLCI Visiting Room

NLCI keeps visiting room property rules tight. Small mistakes can mean a delayed or shortened visit, so use the lists below as your packing check before you leave home.

Allowed Items Limits

  • For each child: up to 2 baby blankets
  • For each child: up to 4 diapers
  • For each child: up to 2 plastic baby bottles
  • For each child: 1 pacifier
  • Diaper wipes are allowed, but they must be kept in a clear plastic bag
  • Powdered baby formula is not allowed in the visiting room
  • 1 coat per visitor
  • 1 pair of gloves per visitor
  • 1 comb, pick, or brush per visitor

You can bring medically necessary medication to your visit, but you won't be allowed to keep it on you. At NLCI, all medically necessary medications must be left at the visiting room officer station.

  • Up to $25 in currency
  • 1 debit card or 1 credit card per visitor

Prohibited Items

  • Diaper bags
  • Cell phones
  • Internet “smart” technology (anything with internet features)
  • Electronic recording equipment
  • Powdered baby formula

Don't bring money orders to the visit for the person in care (PIOC). NLCI does not accept money orders in the visiting room. They're only accepted through the mail.

Planning to use the vending machines? You're the only one who can handle money or cards. At NLCI, all vending purchases must be made by the visitor. A person in our care (PIOC) may not handle currency, debit cards, or credit cards, and they're not allowed in the vending area.

Heads up: If you bring something that's not allowed (like a diaper bag or powdered baby formula), staff will turn it away at the door. For medically necessary medications, plan on leaving them at the visiting room officer station.
