NRVRJ Personal Mail: New Phoenix, MD Address and Exactly How to Address an Envelope
New River Valley Regional Jail has a new mailing address for personal inmate mail. All personal letters should now go to: P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131.
To make sure your letter is delivered electronically, the envelope still needs the same key details - just with the new Phoenix, MD P.O. Box as the mailing address. Include the full facility name and the state where the facility is located, then the incarcerated person’s full name and identifier. Also write your own full name and physical return address clearly in the top-left corner of the envelope. If the identifier is missing or the return address isn’t there, it can slow things down or keep the mail from being processed the way it should.
Example format: Full facility name + state / Inmate full name + identifier / P.O. Box 247 Phoenix, MD 21131
Don’t use the Phoenix, MD address for Legal Mail. The facility’s notice is clear that this address change applies only to personal mail, and Legal Mail should follow separate facility guidelines. The same goes for checks and money orders: they should NOT be sent to the Phoenix, MD P.O. Box. Those also follow separate guidelines, so you’ll want to use the correct process for anything involving funds.
With this change, your personal mail is routed through the Phoenix, MD processing address, but the mail scanning process stays the same. Mail scan review and electronic mail scan delivery will continue to function as it does today. The key practical takeaway is simple: keep addressing the envelope with the facility name and state, the inmate’s full name and identifier, and your full return address - then send it to P.O. Box 247 in Phoenix, Maryland.
