Before Your First Visit to Nolan County Jail: What to Bring, What to Leave Behind
Your first visit to Nolan County Jail goes much smoother when you show up with the right ID, the right clothes, and nothing in your pockets that could get you turned away. Here's a quick, practical checklist before you head out.
Visitors 17 and older need a valid, government-issued photo ID showing their date of birth. Staff check expiration dates - expired IDs won't work. No acceptable ID? No visit.
Heads up: If you don’t have the required, unexpired photo ID at check-in, you can be denied entry - even for off-site visits where you already paid a nonrefundable fee.
Bringing someone under 17? They can't be in the visitation area alone. Nolan County Jail requires minors to be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or legal counsel. The adult also needs legal documentation proving their relationship to the minor - have those papers ready at check-in.
Dress Code
- ✓ Don’t wear tank tops.
- ✓ Don’t wear tube tops.
- ✓ Don’t wear sheer shirts or blouses.
- ✓ Don’t wear low-cut V-neck shirts or blouses.
- ✓ Don’t wear shorts or skirts that are more than 2 inches above the knee.
Lobby Lockers Belongings
- ✓ Don’t bring food or drinks into the lobby.
- ✓ Use the lockers provided in the lobby to store your property.
- ✓ Don’t leave valuables sitting out in the lobby or in your vehicle - anything left there is at your own risk, and the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office isn’t responsible for safekeeping.
Assume your visit is being recorded. Nolan County Jail uses video and audio recording in the visitation area. Plan to be completely unplugged - cell phones and other electronic devices aren't allowed during visitation.
Be extremely careful about what you bring onto jail property. Under Texas Penal Code §38.11, providing certain items to an inmate - or even possessing them with intent to provide - can result in felony charges and arrest. This includes alcohol, controlled substances or dangerous drugs, weapons, cell phones, cash, and tobacco products. Even using a phone during visitation can land you in serious legal trouble.
Reminder: If you or the inmate violate any rules, the jail can terminate the visit and deny, restrict, or revoke visiting privileges.
