When you arrive, you'll sign in on the Visitor's Log for the person you're visiting. Sign out when you leave, too - the facility uses this to track who's in the building and when they left.

Bring a valid photo ID and have it ready at check-in. Without it, you'll be turned away - even if you're on the visitor list and drove an hour to get there.

You'll go through screening before entering the secure area. All visitors pass through an electronic search - think airport-style metal detector. Dress accordingly and follow staff directions.

  • Keys
  • Purses
  • Packages
  • Other personal items (leave them outside the secure area)

Security doesn't stop at the front door. Staff search visitation rooms and common areas before and after each session to check for contraband or hazardous items.

The fastest ways to get turned away? Refusing the search or showing up without proper photo ID. You can also be denied if you don't follow officer instructions during check-in.

Behavior matters at the door. If you're disruptive, uncooperative, or appear to be under the influence of any intoxicating substance, staff can deny your visit.

Dress code enforcement can be strict. Visitors wearing inappropriate attire - as defined in the Facility Operating Procedures and posted at the entrance - may be turned away.

Warning: Introducing any unauthorized item into the detention facility is a third-degree felony.

Getting through the door doesn't guarantee you'll finish your visit. Staff can end it early if your behavior or the resident's behavior becomes disruptive or violates facility policies.

A terminated visit can have lasting consequences. The Superintendent may suspend your future visitation privileges.
