How to Report Concerns About Your Child's Safety or Treatment: Using the CCC Hotline
If you're worried about a youth's safety, care, or treatment in a Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) setting, the Central Communications Center (CCC) hotline is where you can report an incident or file a complaint directly.
The Florida DJJ Central Communications Center (CCC) takes incident reports and complaints tied to any DJJ facility or youth under DJJ's jurisdiction. Anyone can call, as long as your concern qualifies as a reportable incident under the CCC Rule (F.A.C. 63F-11.004). The hotline is open seven days a week, holidays included. If your concern involves suspected child abuse of a child who is not under DJJ supervision, the CCC will direct you to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Child Abuse Hotline instead.
CCC Hotline number: 1-800-355-2280
- ✓ Your child’s name and any identifying details you have (for example, date of birth)
- ✓ The DJJ facility or program involved (and the unit or area, if you know it)
- ✓ What happened, using clear, specific language
- ✓ When it happened (date and approximate time)
- ✓ Who was involved or who witnessed it (names or descriptions)
- ✓ Any immediate safety concerns that need urgent attention
- ✓ Your contact information if you want to be reachable for follow-up (you can also choose to remain anonymous)
If the CCC accepts your complaint, a CCC Duty Officer assigns it an incident number. The report is then forwarded to the appropriate branch for action.
- ✓ Write down the incident number right away
- ✓ Keep it somewhere you can find quickly if you need to call back
- ✓ Use the incident number when you report additional information
- ✓ Use the incident number if you check on the status of the report
You can report anonymously. Just let the Duty Officer know when you call. That said, anonymous reports are harder for the CCC to act on since staff can't reach you for additional details. If you're open to follow-up questions, leave a call-back number or other contact information.
- Call the CCC Hotline. Share the details you have, and stay as specific as you can.
- Get the incident number. If your complaint is accepted, a CCC Duty Officer will assign an incident number.
- Record the basics while they’re fresh. Note what happened, when it happened, where it happened, and who was involved so you can report consistently if you call again.
- Save the incident number for follow-up. Use it if you need to add information later or if you’re checking on the status of your report.
If the child is not under DJJ supervision: Report suspected child abuse to the Department of Children and Families Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE (22873).
You don't need to wait for a weekday. The CCC operates seven days a week, holidays included, so call as soon as the concern comes up.
