Visitation

How to Visit Facility

Visiting at NCCI/Gardner is straightforward once you know which approvals apply to you. The biggest delays usually come from eligibility rules and pre-approval requirements, so confirm those before you try to schedule anything.

If you were paroled or otherwise released from Department custody, you'll need the Superintendent's permission before visiting someone who is still confined. Timing matters, too. Immediate family members who were recently released from incarceration may not be considered for visitation approval until six months after release. If you're not immediate family and you have a prior incarceration, you can apply one year after your release from confinement.

Video visits require approval too. You'll need to complete the pre-approval process and be listed on your loved one's pre-approved visiting list before you can schedule anything. The department uses Securus Video Visitation for video visits.

  1. Figure out whether the Superintendent’s permission rule applies to you. If you were paroled or otherwise released from Department custody, plan on getting Superintendent permission before you try to visit.
  2. Check whether you are inside a waiting period. Recently released immediate family members may not be considered for approval for six months after release. Other applicants with prior incarcerations who are not immediate family members may apply one year after release.
  3. Request permission before you make plans to show up. Get the Superintendent approval step handled first so you do not waste a trip.
  1. Confirm you are eligible for video visitation. Video visits require you to complete the pre-approval process.
  2. Make sure you are on the pre-approved visiting list. You must be listed on your loved one’s pre-approved list before you try to schedule.
  3. Use Securus Video Visitation for the visit. Create the account you need there, then proceed with scheduling only after your approval and list status are in place.

What to Verify

  • Whether the six-month waiting period applies to you (recently released immediate family member)
  • Whether the one-year waiting period applies to you (prior incarceration and not immediate family)
  • Whether there are any exceptions or special approvals for your situation
  • What documentation you need to request Superintendent permission
  • Where and how to submit the Superintendent permission request, and how you will be notified of a decision
  • The exact pre-approval steps required before you can schedule a video visit
  • Where you complete the pre-approval process
  • How to confirm you are on the inmate’s pre-approved visiting list
  • Any technical requirements you need to use Securus Video Visitation (device, account setup, basic access requirements)

Note: Policies, vendors, and approval timelines can change. Before you plan a trip or try to schedule a video visit, verify the current rules directly with the facility.
