Visiting hours at North Fork: how your loved one’s security level and holidays affect weekly visiting time

North Fork controls the visitation schedule - they decide which days and times visits happen. But here's the thing: your loved one's security level caps how many total hours they can visit each week. Even if the facility offers plenty of time slots, your loved one might only be authorized to use a portion of them.

  • Maximum security - up to 4 hours of visitation per week (excluding holidays).
  • Medium security - up to 6 hours of visitation per week (excluding holidays).
  • Minimum security - up to 8 hours of visitation per week (excluding holidays).
  • Community correction center - up to 10 hours of visitation per week (excluding holidays).
  • Halfway house - up to 16 hours of visitation per week (excluding holidays).

Note: These caps are tied to your loved one's security level. North Fork still sets the actual days and times you can visit.

ODOC policy sets visiting days as Saturday, Sunday, and all state-recognized holidays. Facilities can add other days if needed. When a state-recognized holiday lands on a weekday (Monday through Friday), it counts as a bonus visiting day. Your loved one's security-level allotment determines how many hours they can visit on that extra day.

Note: A weekday state holiday can open up extra visiting time. North Fork may set specific hours for holiday visits, so confirm the schedule before you go.

  1. Confirm North Fork’s current visiting days and times - the facility sets the schedule you’ll be able to plan around.
  2. Ask how North Fork handles state holidays - find out whether a holiday is being treated as a visiting day and what hours will be offered.
  3. Verify your loved one’s security level and weekly hour limit - the security level sets how many visitation hours they’re authorized to use in a week.
