How to Send Money to Facility

North Carolina prisons route all non-legal mail through TextBehind. Your letter gets screened, scanned, and delivered electronically to the person's tablet. Because of this setup, the addressing format is strict. Mail must go to TextBehind's P.O. Box in Phoenix, Maryland, and it must include the incarcerated person's name, their OPUS number, and the full prison name (no abbreviations). Get any of that wrong, and the letter comes back to you.

To send money, check the NC DAC webpage on sending funds to offenders. It lists the approved electronic options and is the best starting point for adding money to someone's account.

Steps to Follow

• ✓ Do not include money orders, cash, payment checks, or IRS checks inside letters. If you do, the letter will be returned to sender.

• ✓ If you are mailing items that will be processed through TextBehind, address it to: Name and OPUS Number; full prison name (do not abbreviate); P.O. Box 247; Phoenix, MD 21131. Mail not addressed this way will be returned to the sender.

• ✓ For electronic deposits, follow the NC DAC guidance on its “sending funds to offenders” webpage instead of trying to send money through the mail.
