What Happens to Your Letter: How TextBehind Scans and Delivers Mail to Tablets
If your loved one is in an NCDAC facility, their non-legal mail doesn't arrive as paper. It gets screened, scanned, and delivered electronically to their tablet.
Non-legal mail for people in NCDAC facilities goes through TextBehind. Your letter is screened and scanned into a digital file, then forwarded to the prison so the person you're writing can read it on an electronic tablet. The scanning process captures more than just handwritten pages. Cards, photos, and artwork all come through as images too.
Getting the address format right is critical. This mail routes to TextBehind's Maryland P.O. Box for processing, so use this exact format: Offender Name and OPUS Number, Name of Prison (do not abbreviate), P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. If your envelope isn't addressed this way, it gets returned to you. Your return address also needs to be complete: include your full first name and full last name (no initials), or TextBehind will send the mail back.
Submit your message through the TextBehind app and it can be processed within one business day. That's the fastest option when timing matters.
Mailed letters take longer to reach a tablet. They have to travel through the postal system, get received by TextBehind, and then be scanned into digital files before the facility can deliver them electronically. App submissions skip the physical mail step entirely, which is why they process within one business day and generally arrive faster than a paper envelope.
You have a limited window to get your original letter and contents back. Within 30 days, the sender can request return of the original mailed items by contacting TextBehind customer support at info@textbehind.com. There's a $2.50 service fee per letter to cover return mailing costs.
Important: After 30 days, any originals not requested for return will be shredded.
