The rule is simple: inmates can keep only a wedding band.

The jail also permits one piece of religious jewelry - a neck chain with a religious medallion no larger than a half-dollar.

  • One (1) pair of eyeglasses (accepted by the medical department)
  • Contact lenses and contact solution, as long as they’re in new, unopened bottles (these can be brought to the Lobby on weekdays)

Property left behind at discharge gets held for 30 days. After that, it's discarded. Follow up as soon as you realize something didn't make it home.

Note: If you think you’re close to (or past) the 30-day mark, call the jail right away to ask about the item before assuming it’s gone.

  1. Call Northampton County Jail - Use (610) 829-7402 to ask what the current pickup process is and when property can be retrieved.
  2. Confirm what you need to show - Ask what identification and authorization they require before they’ll release property to a family member or friend.
  3. Bring your documents and follow staff instructions - Once you have the go-ahead, arrive with the requested ID and any proof of relationship or authorization they tell you to provide.
  • A valid photo ID
  • Proof of relationship and/or written authorization (ask the jail what they’ll accept for your situation)

Once 30 days pass, the jail discards any unclaimed property. If you're outside that window - or unsure when the discharge happened - call anyway. Just don't count on an exception.
