Before Your First Visit to NERCC: What to Bring — and What to Leave in the Car
Your first visit to NERCC goes smoother when you show up with only what you're allowed to carry inside: your ID and car keys. Leave everything else locked in your vehicle — otherwise you might get turned away at the door.
For on-site visits at NERCC, bring just two things inside: your identification and your car keys. The facility expects all other personal items to stay outside. Keep it simple from the start - you don't want to get halfway through check-in and have to walk back to your car.
Footwear reminder: You must have appropriate footwear before you can enter the visitor’s area.
Leave Items Outside
- ✓ Handbags/purses
- ✓ Packages of any kind
- ✓ Any other personal items besides your ID and car keys
- ✓ Anything you don’t want to take back to the car (if you bring it in, staff will tell you to lock it in your vehicle or come back another time without it)
Heads up: If you arrive with a handbag, package, or other personal items, staff will tell you to lock them in your vehicle or come back without them. NERCC isn't responsible for lost or stolen belongings.
Electronics Prohibition
- ✓ Cell phones
- ✓ iPads/tablets
- ✓ Other electronic devices
- ✓ Cameras/photography equipment
- ✓ Recording equipment
Cell phones, tablets, cameras, and recording devices aren't allowed during visits. Show up with electronics and you'll be sent back to your car to secure them - or told to return another day. Save yourself the hassle and leave them locked up before you walk in.
No food, drinks, or tobacco in the visitor's area. Finish your coffee before you head in, and don't plan on eating during your visit.

A few planning details can save you a wasted trip. On-site visits are limited to four visitors at a time, and they must be immediate family. Bringing kids? The parent or guardian decides if the visit is age-appropriate, and you're responsible for supervising minors in the waiting area and during the visit itself. NERCC also offers on-site video visitation on Wednesdays and Sundays, with five slots available between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Video visits last 20 minutes max, and if you're more than 10 minutes late, your visit gets cancelled - unless no one else is scheduled after you.
