NERCC Video Visit Rules: 5 Things That Will End Your Call Early

3 min read Verified from official sources

Video visits at NERCC are scheduled by email. Send your request to nerccvisiting@arcmn5.org and wait for an approval confirmation from that same address. If your call gets cut short, the follow-up section at the end explains how to find out what happened and request another visit.

Zero tolerance: If nudity of any kind is shown during a video call, the resident will lose video calling privileges.

NERCC also expects visitors to dress appropriately before entering the visitor area. Clothing considered inappropriate includes transparent or see-through items, halter tops, spaghetti straps, very short clothing, and anything promoting drugs or alcohol. Hats, bandanas, and gang-associated clothing can also get you stopped before the visit starts. If staff finds your outfit offensive or unacceptable, you may not get in. Dress conservatively to avoid a quick shutdown.

Residents cannot move around the facility during a visit. If the resident tries to walk around while the call is happening, the visit can be cut short immediately.

On-site video visits are limited to 20 minutes. NERCC can end a visit earlier if the resident's or visitor's behavior warrants it. Anything that looks like a rule violation costs you time you won't get back.

Residents cannot display other residents, staff members, or the facility layout on their devices during visits. The camera should stay on the resident. No panning around the housing area, no showing other people, no revealing where they are. If the screen shows anything in that category, expect the call to end.

Do not take photos, screenshots, or recordings of the visit. NERCC's rule is simple: visitors cannot photograph or record video during on-site or remote visitation sessions. Even if your intention is harmless, recording can terminate the visit and create bigger consequences for the resident.

Plan your conversation with privacy in mind. Visiting areas may be subject to audio monitoring, recording, or both. Residents are informed of this through signs and the Resident Handbook. Keep the conversation appropriate for a monitored setting to avoid a sudden interruption.

Professional visits have a separate rule: they cannot be recorded unless a court order has been issued.

Even if you follow every rule, NERCC can terminate a visit at any time without prior notice if institutional security requires it. On-site video visits are set for 20 minutes but can end earlier based on behavior. Staying calm and rule-focused matters.

Two issues trigger fast action: nudity and what appears on screen. Any nudity shown will cost the resident their video calling privileges. Displaying other residents, staff members, or the facility layout is also prohibited and can end the visit immediately.

  • Email nerccvisiting@arcmn5.org and briefly explain that the video visit ended early, then ask whether video visit privileges are still active.
  • If privileges are still active, request another video visit time and wait for approval confirmation from that same email address.
  • Keep your message short and respectful. Include the resident’s name and focus on rescheduling, not arguing about what happened on the call.
