Before you can visit someone at Northern Correctional Institution, your name has to be on that inmate's approved visiting list. This is the first requirement to clear, even before you start planning a date and time. Not sure whether you're already approved? Don't assume. Get confirmation first so you don't make the trip only to get turned away.

Plan your group size: No more than two (2) visitors are allowed per visit, and that total includes children.

If you're not already on the approved list, you'll need to go through the visiting application process. Northern CI follows Connecticut DOC's visitor approval rules, so the application is what gets you added to the inmate's list. Start this as early as you can. Wait until you have clear confirmation that you're on the list before trying to visit.

Don't gamble on "maybe approved": If you're not on the list yet, complete the visiting application process first. Build in time for processing and follow any facility-specific instructions you're given.

Even after you're approved, the visiting schedule isn't one-size-fits-all. Connecticut DOC schedules vary by facility, so check Northern CI's current schedule before you commit to a trip. Keep holidays in mind, too. Visits are not held on state observed holidays, including New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

For the most current details, check Northern Correctional Institution's facility page to confirm the visiting schedule specific to that location.

Sometimes a visit can't happen even if you're approved. If the inmate is on any Quarantine Status, social visits are off the table until the Health Services Unit clears them. Planning a visit and something suddenly changed? Quarantine status is one of the first things to ask about, since it can temporarily block social visits.

Quarantine can pause visits: Social visits are not allowed for offenders on any Quarantine Status until Health Services clears them.
