Setting Up a Free Video Visit at Northern CI: What You Need and How It Works
Northern CI offers free video visits through Microsoft Teams, but a few details can trip people up. The visitor limit, the email confirmation step, and the tech setup all matter. Here's what you need to know to get connected.
Up to three authorized adults can join a Northern CI video visit, and all of them need to be listed on the Visit Request Form. Youth living in the household don't count toward that three-adult cap, so they can participate without taking up a spot.
You'll need Microsoft Teams on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop with a working camera and microphone. Test both before the visit. If your camera or mic isn't functioning, you won't be able to connect, since the visit requires video and audio.
Scheduling starts with your email. Northern CI requires a valid email address to set up a video visit, so use one you check regularly, even on short notice.
Heads up: Your visit isn't confirmed until you get an email from the facility. If you don't see one, check your junk or spam folder.
Video visits at Northern CI are completely free. You shouldn't be paying any fee to use this option.
Recording rule: Facility staff record all video visits. You are not allowed to record the visit on any personal device.
Still waiting on a scheduling email or day-of instructions? Check your junk mail folder first. Northern CI specifically notes that confirmations and visit-related emails often end up there.
If you've checked spam and still have nothing, contact Northern Correctional Institution directly to ask about your video visit request. Phone: (860) 763-8600. Fax: (860) 763-8651. Address: 287 Bilton Road, POB 665, Somers, CT 06071.
