Before Your First Video Visit at Northern Neck Regional Jail: Timing, Dress Code, and What Not to Bring

At Northern Neck Regional Jail, each family/video visit is 20 minutes. Because the visit time is fixed, a slow sign-in or a last-minute scramble can cut into your time together fast - so it helps to be set up and ready before the session starts.

If you scheduled your video visit in advance, log in at least 10 minutes before your scheduled time - but no more than 20 minutes early. Too late and you risk missing the start. Too early can cause problems too. Aim for 15 minutes early and make it a habit.

Note: Show up late and you'll only get whatever time remains - or you may not be allowed to visit at all.

Dress Code

  • No nudity
  • No provocative clothing
  • No tight-fitting clothing
  • If you’re unsure whether something will be considered provocative or too tight, choose a more conservative outfit so you don’t risk being barred from visitation

If you appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you won't be permitted to visit. Your session will be cancelled. Even if you feel fine, if there's any chance you could look impaired, reschedule for a time when you can show up clear-headed.

Bringing a child? Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. That adult needs to stay present for the entire visit - otherwise the session could get interrupted.

Cell phones and other electronics are prohibited during visits - except for the device you're using for the video call itself. If you have a second phone, tablet, smartwatch, or extra screen nearby, put them away before you log in.

  1. Notify visitation staff immediately - If you have audio or video reception problems during your visit, you’re required to report it right away.
  2. Act fast to protect your time - The visit length is 20 minutes, so the sooner you speak up, the less time you lose to troubleshooting.
