How to Leave an Emergency Message for an Inmate at Northern Neck Regional Jail

Northern Neck Regional Jail will take an emergency message only in a verified emergency. In that situation, staff can accept your message and forward it to the inmate concerned.

For everyday updates, the jail doesn't work like a normal phone system. You can't call inmates directly, and staff won't transfer calls into housing areas. "Can you tell them to call me?" requests generally don't get passed along. Third-party collect calls and credit card calls aren't allowed either. The emergency-message option exists as a narrow exception - reserved for urgent, verified situations only.

1. Call the emergency message line - Dial 804-333-6419 and use extension 5006.
2. Say it’s a verified emergency - Be clear that you’re calling to leave an emergency message so it’s handled under the jail’s emergency process.
3. Leave the message for the inmate - Provide the information you need passed along so it can be forwarded to the inmate concerned.

Outside of emergencies, the main way to connect is by having the inmate call you. In general housing, inmates can typically access phones between 8:30am and 10:30pm - so that's your window for hearing from them.
