Visiting Northern State Prison takes some planning, especially for legal visits. Attorneys must send written notification or call the incarcerated person's housing facility administrator at least 24 hours before the visit. Your request needs to include the attorney (or representative) name, the incarcerated person's name, who the attorney represents (if applicable), and your requested date and time. Contact attorney visits can be restricted or denied for security reasons, but staff should offer a non-contact option when contact is denied. For video or teleconference attorney visits, requests are typically submitted in advance, with a 48-hour fax timeframe noted. Northern State Prison offers video teleconferencing (VTC) on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. No regular sessions are available on weekends or state holidays. To schedule a VTC, fax your request to the institution and the facility coordinator (or designee) at least 48 hours before the requested date, not counting weekends and holidays. Sessions should start no later than one hour before closing when possible, and won't be scheduled to end after 4:00 PM unless both parties agree to a special arrangement. The VTC setup includes a facsimile machine so inmates can directly receive incoming documents. Communications with outside agency personnel are privileged and confidential. Any breach must be reported in writing within 48 hours.
