What You Can and Can't Bring Into the Visiting Room at Northwest Correctional Complex
Want your visit at Northwest Correctional Complex to go smoothly? Pack light. The visiting area has strict limits on what you can bring, and you'll pass through multiple security screenings before you're allowed inside.
Keep it simple: you can only bring your photo ID and car keys (or key fob) into the visitation area. Leave everything else locked in your vehicle - otherwise you'll be stuck turning around at the checkpoint.
- ✓ Diapers (as needed)
- ✓ Formula powder (as needed)
- ✓ Unopened, sealed baby food (as needed)
- ✓ Other necessary baby items (as needed)
- ✓ Clear plastic bag (required for the baby items you bring)
Planning to grab snacks from the vending machines? You'll need a vending machine debit card. Buy or reload one in the lobby before entering the visitation area - once you're inside, you can't step back out to handle it.
Note: Expect multiple security screenings, including a body scanner. The fewer items you bring, the faster and easier check-in usually is.
Everyone - adults and kids - needs to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Not sure if something will pass? Go with a more conservative option. Getting turned away at the door isn't worth the risk.
- ✓ Spandex or spandex-type fabric
- ✓ Transparent or translucent clothing/items
- ✓ Clothing that exposes bare midriff
- ✓ Flip flops
- ✓ Steel-toed shoes
- ✓ Composite-toed shoes
Tip: Dress plainly from the start. Staff can turn you away for prohibited clothing or footwear, and having to change outfits could mean missing your visit entirely.
Your phone, smart watch, wallet, and other personal items? Lock them in your car. Only your photo ID and car keys are allowed inside. Plan ahead so you're not hauling stuff back to the parking lot.
One more thing: vehicle searches can happen routinely on state property. Don't leave anything questionable in your car.
Warning: Firearms, weapons, drugs, and alcohol are strictly prohibited on state property.
Smoking and vaping are banned everywhere on state property. If you normally carry cigarettes, a vape, or a lighter, leave them in your vehicle before heading to the entrance.
Don't bring items to drop off during your visit. Visitors can't hand-deliver letters, printed materials, personal property, or money to an inmate. All of that has to go through proper mail and funds procedures.
The same rule applies to anything tucked inside a letter. The facility won't accept personal checks, certified checks, money orders, or cash enclosed in incoming mail - use the approved methods for sending funds instead.
