Picking up release checks and what happens to an inmate's money at release (Northwestern)
Wondering what happens to money when someone is released from Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center? Here's the short version: cash gets deposited into an inmate account at booking, and any remaining balance is returned by check at release. Pickup is only available during specific weekday hours.
At booking, any cash on the person is collected and deposited into an individual inmate account. This account holds their money for the duration of their time in custody.
Items with monetary value - debit cards, credit cards, personal checks - aren't deposited. They go into personal property storage instead.
Release checks can be picked up Monday through Friday during two windows: 9:30 AM–11:30 AM and 12:30 PM–4:00 PM. Plan around that midday break if you're making the trip.
Note: There is no check pickup on Saturdays or Sundays, and the posted pickup schedule excludes all holidays.
Scheduled releases at Northwestern start at 5:00 AM. Since check pickup doesn't open until 9:30 AM, an early morning release means you'll need to wait - or come back later during posted hours.
