How to put money on an inmate's account at Northwestern: kiosks, mail, and online options
Trying to get money to someone at Northwestern? You have three options: lobby kiosks, a mailed money order, or an online deposit. Which one works best depends on what the funds are for—phone, commissary, or tablet.
Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center accepts deposits three ways: the Inmate Banker kiosks in the main lobby, money orders sent through U.S. mail, or online through ConnectNetwork (search for "NW Regional VA – Adult Detention," site ID 7). Which method you choose depends on where the money needs to go - phone, commissary, or tablet.
For in-person deposits, the Inmate Banker kiosks are your fastest option. Northwestern has two kiosks in the main lobby, open 24/7 - no need to work around office hours.
The kiosks accept cash or cards. You'll choose where the money goes: either to an inmate's phone number for calls or directly to their commissary account.
Mailing a money order? Address it like this: Inmate Name 141 Fort Collier Road Winchester, Virginia 22603
- ✓ Use a money order mailed through the U.S. Postal Service.
- ✓ Write the sender’s full first and last name on the money order.
- ✓ Include the sender’s complete address.
- ✓ Include the inmate’s full name on the money order.
- ✓ Know where it goes: mailed money orders are deposited to the inmate’s commissary account.
Online deposits go through ConnectNetwork. Search for "NW Regional VA – Adult Detention" - the site ID is 7.
Through the website, you can add money to an inmate's phone or commissary account. This is also the only way to fund paid tablet features. Once money goes into the tablet account, it stays there - it can't be transferred to commissary or other accounts.
Here's something to know before you deposit: these accounts don't mix. Phone funds and commissary funds are separate buckets. Money added to a phone number for calls can't be moved to commissary later if you pick the wrong option. Mailed money orders go straight to commissary. And tablet money? That's its own balance entirely - added online and restricted to tablet use only.
Tablet funds work differently: Northwestern provides tablets with some free features. Paid options - games, movies, music, video visits, phone calls, and messaging - require money added online. That tablet balance can only be spent on the tablet.
Commissary orders go out weekly. To get items by Thursday, the inmate needs to submit their order by 10:00 PM on Tuesday.
