Northwestern Detention Center — Visitation Hours: What Changed in July 2025
Still using an old visitation schedule for Northwestern Detention Center? You might show up at the wrong time. Here's what changed in July 2025—and how to avoid missing the admission cutoff.
Before July 2025, the posted schedule (effective April 15, 2021) listed weekday afternoon visitation as 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
As of 7/7/2025, onsite visitation splits into two weekday sessions. Morning visits run Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Afternoon visits run Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 3:15 PM.
Main change: The weekday afternoon session moved from 1:30–3:00 PM to 2:00–3:15 PM, and the afternoon “no admittance after” cutoff is now 3:15 PM under the July 2025 schedule.
Daily Hours
- ✓ Monday–Friday (morning): 8:30 AM–11:00 AM
- ✓ Monday–Friday (afternoon): 2:00 PM–3:15 PM
These cutoffs are strict. Morning visitation closes admission at 11:00 AM - no exceptions. Under the July 2025 schedule, afternoon admission ends at 3:15 PM.
Know your visit length so you're not rushed. Onsite visits last 30 minutes. If you're using off-site video visitation instead, those are limited to 15 minutes.
Onsite visits are first-come, first-served, so timing matters - especially near the cutoff. Check in at the Main Lobby, and arrive early to improve your chances of getting a slot.
Who Can Visit
- ✓ Adults must be 18 or older to visit.
- ✓ Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21.
- ✓ Party size limit: no more than 2 adults and 1 child, or 1 adult and 2 children at one time.
- ✓ Bring a valid state driver’s license or other current photo ID.
- ✓ Make sure you’re on the inmate’s approved visitor list before you try to visit.
Even if the weekday hours work for you, visitation closes during Frederick County holidays and county closures. Traveling from out of town or planning around a day off? Confirm the facility is open before you leave.

You may find two different "official-looking" schedules online - and they don't match. One (effective April 15, 2021) lists weekday afternoon visitation as 1:30 PM–3:00 PM.
