How to Visit Facility

Two big policy updates took effect June 1, 2023. Visitors no longer need to be on an inmate's approved visiting list for in-person visitation. Inmates also no longer have to complete and submit an Inmate Visiting List to their counselor in January and July. Other visitation requirements still apply, but the old visiting-list paperwork step is gone.

For video visitation, anyone 18 or older must present a valid, government-issued photo ID. Keep your phone and any recording devices put away during the visit. Recording, filming, and taking pictures or screenshots of the inmate are all prohibited, whether by the visitor or a third party.

Dress to meet the facility's coverage rule: clothing must cover from the neck to the kneecaps, and all visitors must wear underwear.

Steps to Follow

• ✓ For home internet video visits, log into the GTL system at least 15 minutes before the visit start time.

• ✓ If you are using an AFOI Visitor Center, arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled video visit.

• ✓ If you are 18 or older, bring a valid government-issued photo ID for video visitation.
• ✓ Do not record, film, or take pictures or screenshots during the visit.
• ✓ Follow the clothing rule: cover from the neck to the kneecaps, and wear underwear.

Before you make plans, confirm the current visitation policies with the facility. The June 1, 2023 updates mean you don't need to be on an approved visiting list for in-person visitation, and inmates no longer submit the January/July visiting list. That said, day-to-day procedures can still vary. It's also smart to ask how strict the facility is about start times, since video visits are tied to exact time slots and late or missed visits aren't refunded.

Double-check the logistics for the type of video visit you're using. For home internet video visits, you need to be logged into the GTL system at least 15 minutes before the visit starts. If you're going to an AFOI Visitor Center, plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early. Also confirm which forms of government-issued photo ID are accepted for visitors age 18 and older, so you don't show up with the wrong document.
