Mailing Money Orders to Nueces County Jail: 6 Common Mistakes That Get Payments Rejected

If your money order or cashier's check isn't filled out exactly the way Nueces County Jail requires, it won't be posted to your loved one's account. Here are the most common mistakes families make, and how to avoid them.

Nueces County Jail only accepts two forms of payment by mail: cashier's checks and money orders. Send anything else (personal checks, cash, prepaid cards) and it won't be credited to the inmate's account.

Writing the payee line the "normal" way is one of the fastest ways to get a rejection. Nueces County Jail requires cashier's checks and money orders to be made payable to "Inmate Trust Fund," C/O the inmate receiving the money. Use the inmate's full name in that C/O field so staff can match the funds to the correct person.

Even with the payee line filled out correctly, missing identification details can still hold up your deposit. Include the inmate's date of birth and their Nueces SID# with your money order or cashier's check. One key detail: use the Nueces (county) SID number, not a State SID number. The jail specifically requires the Nueces SID# for processing.

Ink warning: Fill out money orders and cashier's checks in black or blue ink only. Silver, gold, metallic, glitter, or other gel pen colors are not accepted.

Where Not

  • Sending a personal check (personal checks are not accepted).
  • Dropping off or trying to submit money, checks, or money orders through the Jail Information Booth.
  • Dropping off or trying to submit money, checks, or money orders at the McKenzie Jail Annex.
  • Trying to submit money, checks, or money orders during visitation hours.
