  • Cellphones

  • Weapons of any kind (including knives)
  • Food or drinks

Obion County Courthouse has a dress code, and it's stricter than you might expect for a quick visit. Shorts aren't allowed. Neither are tank tops, halter tops, or anything overly revealing. Leave the ripped jeans, sagging pants, pajamas, and house shoes at home. Gang-related clothing is prohibited too - keep graphics and logos conservative.

Tip: If you’re unsure, dress like you would for church - conservative, clean, and simple. It’s the easiest way to avoid delays at security or being told to change before you can go in.

You'll go through security screening before entering the courtroom. Phones, bags, and anything resembling a weapon will stop your visit cold. Travel light and show up ready to pass through without hassle.

  1. Arrive ready to pass screening - you’ll be screened before entering the courtroom, so give yourself time.
  2. Leave your phone behind - cellphones aren’t allowed in the courthouse.
  3. Don’t bring bags - purses, bags, and briefcases can keep you from getting through screening smoothly.

Keep it simple: leave your cellphone in the car. Don't bring a purse, bag, or briefcase. Dress conservatively - no shorts, tank tops, ripped or holey clothing, pajamas, sagging pants, house shoes, or gang-related items. Skip the snacks and coffee; food and drinks aren't allowed inside. Before you head in, do a quick pocket check for anything that could be treated as a weapon, especially knives.

Reminder: Before you park, check your pockets for your phone or a small knife. These are easy to forget and will get you turned away at the door.
