What you can't bring to Ocean County Jail: prohibited items checklist
At Ocean County Jail, bring one thing: your photo ID. That's it. Food, drinks, gum, cigarettes, lighters - all of it stays in your car.
Expect airport-style screening. You'll pass through a metal detector and thermal scanner, and staff may search you. The Shift Commander/OIC can deny your visit if you don't follow the rules, so do a quick pocket check before you walk up.

Show up with prohibited items and you could lose your visit. The Shift Commander/OIC can turn you away for breaking the rules. Keep your outfit simple, empty your pockets, and bring nothing but your ID.
Before entering the visiting area, you'll pass through a metal detector and thermal scanner. Staff may also search you. Ocean County Jail only allows visitors to bring their photo ID inside - no personal items, no exceptions. Leave everything else outside before you head in.
Tip: Since you’re only allowed in with your photo ID, leave everything else secured outside the building (for example, in your vehicle).
- Stop before you enter the visiting area - if you notice you have food, gum, cigarettes, a lighter, or anything extra besides your photo ID, don’t take it inside.
- Put it away and come back - secure the item outside the building and return to check in.
- Follow staff instructions - visits can be denied for non-compliance with visiting rules and regulations, so don’t argue it at the door.
