How to Visit Facility

Before making any travel plans, contact the facility directly. They handle background check approvals and visit scheduling. This step is required, so hold off on booking anything until you have clear confirmation that your visit is approved.

If you are completing a Juvenile Services Visiting Request form, mail the completed request to: WV Division of Corrections & Rehabiltitation, Bureau of Juvenile Services, Attn: Visitors Request, 1409 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311. For questions, you can call 304-558-2036 or send a fax to 304-558-6032.

Note: The Superintendent can deny your visit even if your background check has been approved. Always confirm you have permission to visit before traveling.

Steps to Follow

  • Contact the facility where the offender is located to start background check approval and schedule the visit.
  • If you are instructed to submit a Juvenile Services Visiting Request form, mail the completed form to: WV Division of Corrections & Rehabiltitation, Bureau of Juvenile Services, Attn: Visitors Request, 1409 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.
  • Use 304-558-2036 (phone) or 304-558-6032 (fax) if you need to follow up on the mailed request.

Plan ahead: An approved background check doesn't guarantee your visit. The Superintendent can still turn you away. Get confirmation before taking time off work or booking travel.

How to Visit Facility

When you call the facility, ask what they need for the background check and how long approval typically takes. Find out how visits are scheduled, who to speak with, and what information they require. Each facility handles this differently, so getting current instructions directly helps you avoid a wasted trip.

  • Confirm the mailing address is still: WV Division of Corrections & Rehabiltitation, Bureau of Juvenile Services, Attn: Visitors Request, 1409 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.
  • Confirm the contact numbers before you send anything: Phone 304-558-2036; Fax 304-558-6032.
  • Keep a copy of whatever you mail for your records.

Ask directly: Since the Superintendent can deny visits even after approval, ask what situations typically lead to denials and whether there's any review process if you're turned down.
