Visitation

How to Visit Facility

Visiting at Old Colony Corr. Center starts with one requirement: you must be on the incarcerated person's pre-approved visiting list before you schedule or show up.

You can't visit until you're on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list. The process starts on their side: your loved one has to submit each visitor's name to the institution. After your name is added, you'll still need to complete a Visitor Application Form and mail it to the specific institution where the inmate is currently housed.

Bringing children? The rule is simpler than it sounds. Minors (under 18) don't need their own pre-approval. They just have to come with a parent or legal guardian who has physical custody and is already on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list.

There's a cap on how many people can be pre-approved for one inmate, and it depends on security level. Maximum security and medium security allow up to 8 pre-approved visitors. Minimum security and pre-release allow up to 10.

If someone who wants to visit was recently paroled or otherwise released from Department custody, they need permission from the Superintendent before visiting an inmate who is still confined. Timing matters here, too. Family members recently released from incarceration may not be considered for visitation approval for six months after release. Other applicants with prior incarcerations who are not immediate family members may apply one year after release from confinement.

Video visits: Video visitation is available through Securus Video Visitation, but video visitors still need to complete the same pre-approval process and be listed on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list before scheduling.

  1. Confirm you’ve been added to the visiting list - The inmate must submit each visitor’s name to the institution. If you’re not on the pre-approved list yet, you won’t be able to move forward with a visit.
  1. Complete the Visitor Application Form - Fill it out fully and accurately.
  2. Mail the application to the institution where they are held - The form must be mailed to the specific institution you intend to visit. Use the institution’s current instructions so it goes to the right place.
  1. Plan the adult who will attend with the child - Any minor visiting must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with physical custody.
  2. Make sure that adult is approved - The accompanying parent or guardian must be on the inmate’s pre-approved visiting list.
  • Check the inmate’s security level limit on pre-approved visitors (Maximum and Medium: 8; Minimum/Pre-release: 10).
  • If a visitor was paroled or otherwise released from Department custody, confirm Superintendent permission is in place before planning the visit.
  • If the applicant is an inmate family member recently released, plan around the six-month window after release.
  • If the applicant has prior incarceration and is not immediate family, plan around the one-year window after release.
  1. Get approved first - Video visitors have to complete the pre-approval process and be listed on the inmate’s pre-approved visiting list before scheduling.
  2. Use the correct platform - Video visitation is handled through Securus Video Visitation.

What to Verify

  • Confirm the minor will be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with physical custody who is on the pre-approved visiting list.
  • Ask what documentation, if any, the institution expects for the accompanying parent/guardian.
  • Confirm the maximum number of pre-approved visitors allowed for the inmate’s security level (Maximum and Medium: 8; Minimum/Pre-release: 10).
  • If you were paroled or otherwise released from Department custody, ask how to obtain Superintendent permission for your visit.
  • If you are immediate family and were recently released from incarceration, confirm whether the six-month waiting period applies to you.
  • If you are not immediate family and have a prior incarceration, confirm whether the one-year waiting period applies to you.
  • Confirm you are fully pre-approved and listed on the inmate’s pre-approved visiting list before you try to schedule a video visit.
  • Confirm the institution’s current video visitation process through Securus Video Visitation.

For the most accurate, up-to-date instructions, check the institution's official guidance or contact them directly. That's where you'll find the correct Visitor Application Form, the mailing address, and any current procedures affecting both in-person visits and Securus video visitation scheduling.
