Before Your First Visit to Oneida County Jail: Complete Checklist

The facility is at 6075 Judd Road, Oriskany, NY 13424. Plug the full address into your map app before you leave - you don't want to troubleshoot directions in the parking lot.

Call visitation at (315) 765-2380 before heading out. It's the quickest way to confirm the person you want to see is available and to get any day-of instructions.

Arrive Early and Registration

  • Driver’s license
  • Oneida County Sheriff identification card
  • Social service benefit card with picture
  • New York State personal identification card
  • School-issued identification card
  • Passport with picture

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit to register. Late arrivals aren't allowed in - no exceptions. If you're cutting it close, reschedule. Getting turned away at the door is worse than waiting another day.

Dress and Prohibited Items

  • See-through tops or bottoms
  • Low-cut tops
  • Spaghetti-strap tops
  • Halter tops
  • Shirts that expose the midriff
  • Bra-type tops
  • Short skirts or short shorts
  • Use the fingertip guideline for shorts/skirts: stand straight with arms at your sides - your fingers should not extend below the hem

Come empty-handed. Photographs, letters, mail, and other objects aren't allowed in the visiting room - even if you mean well.

You'll need to empty your pockets completely before entering. The only items you can keep on you are your clothing, wedding bands, prescription eyewear, and medical alert bracelets. If you're unsure about something, leave it in your vehicle.

You'll walk through a metal detector and submit to a pat-search before entering the visiting room. Refuse the pat-search and you lose contact visit privileges. Refuse the metal detector and you won't visit at all.

Warning: Trying to enter the visitation area with prohibited items (for example, weapons, money, drugs, pens, cell phones, or pagers) is illegal and can lead to arrest for “Promoting Prison Contraband.”

Each inmate gets two one-hour visiting blocks per week. Want both on the same day? You'll need supervisor approval.

Visitation is closed on the 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Check before making a holiday drive.

If your loved one was recently booked, visits may be limited at first. Inmates receive non-contact visits until they complete the classification process, so contact visits might not be available yet.
