Bringing Court Clothes & Indigent Assistance at Ordnance Road: Release of Property, Exchange Hours, and Free Hygiene Items
Getting court clothes to someone at Ordnance Road is straightforward once you understand the approval and exchange process. Here's what needs to be in place before you drop anything off, when exchanges happen, and what help indigent inmates can get for basic hygiene and clothing.
Before Ordnance Road will exchange or release any clothing for court, a Release of Property form has to be requested and approved. The form must specifically name the person making the delivery. Double-check that the correct individual is listed before you show up with items.
Bring a valid photo ID when you deliver court clothing. The process works as a swap: you leave the approved items for the inmate, and staff hand you the clothing currently stored in the inmate's property bag.
Timing matters. Court clothing can only be exchanged within seven (7) days of the court appearance. Plan your drop-off around the hearing date rather than trying to do it far in advance.
Clothing exchanges happen daily during a set evening window: 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Show up outside that timeframe and you'll likely have to come back the next day.
Ordnance Road classifies an inmate as "indigent" if they have no funds on the day commissary is processed. Indigent inmates are still allowed to place one commissary order per week under the indigent provision.
- ✓ Personal Hygiene Kit (once per week)
- ✓ Or, instead of the kit: a pair of socks
- ✓ One t-shirt
- ✓ One pair of briefs (for men) or one pair of panties (for women)
Even if someone qualifies as indigent, the facility expects reimbursement to commissary for outstanding charges once money is deposited into the inmate's account. In practice, funds that come in later may be applied to cover those balances first.
Upon release, an indigent inmate can request a bus token for the local transit system during normal operating hours. If transportation is a concern, have your loved one ask about this as part of the release process.
Indigent inmates can also request access to a telephone at the time of release to make collect calls. This is a good way to reach family or friends right after being discharged.
