Ordnance Road Commissary: Weekly Orders, The Wednesday Deadline, and the Indigent Program

Ordnance Road runs a cashless commissary system. Your loved one can't pay directly - money has to be in their inmate account first. They get one commissary order per week, so timing your deposits matters if you want them to place that week's order.

Commissary covers the basics that make daily jail life easier: personal hygiene items, clothing, and snacks. Stock varies, and so will your loved one's choices. The key thing? Funds need to be in place before the weekly order runs.

The deadline is firm: deposits must clear by midnight Wednesday to count toward Thursday's commissary order. Deposit after that? The money may still post, but it won't be available for that week's order - and your loved one misses their window.

When an inmate has no funds on commissary processing day, the facility classifies them as "indigent." This doesn't mean unlimited free commissary - it's a safety net. Once per week, an indigent inmate can order a limited set of essential items at no cost.

If someone is indigent at release, a little help is available. They can request a bus token for local transit (during normal operating hours) and access to a phone for collect calls. Good to know if you're coordinating pickup or want to make sure they can reach you.

2. Aim for Wednesday, not Thursday - Deposits must be completed by midnight Wednesday to be included in Thursday’s commissary order.
3. Bring the right cash for the kiosk - The kiosk takes $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills, but it won’t accept coins or $1 bills.
4. Leave a buffer for posting - Deposits credit to the inmate’s account shortly after they’re made, but cutting it close to midnight Wednesday is a gamble if you’re trying to hit that Thursday order.
