How Visitation Hours Work at Otsego County Jail: Trustees vs. General/Close Custody

Weekly visiting allowances at Otsego County Jail depend on custody status. General custody and close custody inmates get the same deal: two one-hour open visits per week. Trustees have it a bit better - they're allowed three one-hour open visits weekly.

Each visit lasts one hour. Here's the catch: even if a visit ends early, the jail still counts it as a full hour. Keep this in mind when planning - especially if you're trying to spread visits across the week.

  • No more than two (2) visitors are allowed per visit.

When a visit happens on a regular visiting day and the inmate still has time available, that visit counts against their remaining balance.

Visits on non-visiting days work the same way. If the inmate has time on the books and gets an approved visit outside the normal schedule, it still gets charged to their account.

Note: If the inmate has no time left on the books and the visit is approved, then no time is charged to the inmate.

  1. Check whether it’s a normal visiting day - If it is, and the inmate still has time on the books, the visit is charged to the inmate.
  2. If it’s not a normal visiting day, check time anyway - If the inmate has time on the books, the visit is still charged.
  3. Confirm whether the inmate has time left - If the inmate has no time left and the visit is approved, no time is charged.

Since even a short visit counts as a full hour, coordinate your timing carefully. You don't want to burn through the week's visits faster than expected - especially if travel or scheduling makes return trips difficult.
