How to Schedule and Prepare for a Professional Visit at Pamunkey Regional Jail (effective March 1, 2025)

Starting March 1, 2025, Pamunkey Regional Jail moved to set windows for onsite professional visits and stopped taking appointments. Contact (no-barrier) visits are now limited to weekdays during business hours. Non-contact (through-glass) visits have a wider daily window. The biggest shift? You can't book a slot anymore. Onsite visits run first-come, first-serve - so timing and flexibility matter more than they used to.

Need an onsite contact (no-barrier) visit? Plan for Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Those are the only hours available under the March 1, 2025 schedule.

Non-contact (through-glass) visits have the broadest availability: seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. If you can work through glass, this option makes evenings and weekends possible.

Note: Regular internal scheduled activities can delay visits, and contact (no-barrier) visits are not conducted on published holidays.

How to Schedule and Prepare for a Professional Visit at Pamunkey Regional Jail (effective March 1, 2025)

Pamunkey Regional Jail no longer takes appointments for onsite professional visits. Show up during the right window and expect a first-come, first-serve process.

  • Arrive early for the visit type you need (weekday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. for contact; daily 8:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. for non-contact) so you’re not stuck behind a rush.
  • Build in extra time - regular internal scheduled activities may delay when you actually get called back.
  • If you have flexibility, consider using the non-contact window (it runs later and includes weekends) when contact hours don’t work.

What to Bring

  • Photographic identification
  • Professional credentials (for example, a bar card or an employer-issued ID card)

Can't make the onsite windows? Professional visitation is also available through Remote Visitation - at no charge. This can be a lifesaver when travel time or a packed schedule makes an in-person trip unrealistic.

Remote Visitation runs seven days a week, roughly 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., but it follows the jail's internal schedule. Watch out for these blocked-out windows: 10:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m.–2:30 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m. If you're coordinating with a court calendar or clinical schedule, those gaps are the ones most likely to cause problems.

Privacy note: Remote Visitation calls and video sessions are not recorded or monitored.

  1. Complete the one-time Remote Visitation setup - This is required before your first session.
  2. Do it 1–3 days ahead of time - The jail recommends setting it up 1–3 days before your first use so there’s time for approval and account setup.

If you run into problems during setup or have questions about getting started, contact the jail’s on-site ViaPath representative at 804-365-6400 ext. 3099.

For a one-time emergency special appointment that can’t be handled through the standard onsite or remote options, call 804-537-6400 ext. 3013 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) or 804-537-6400 ext. 3014 (all other times) to see whether a special appointment can be arranged. Approval isn’t guaranteed.
