Understanding Pasquotank's 18-Visitor Limit and How to Update the List
Planning visits gets a lot easier once you understand two separate limits: the total number of people who can be on the approved list, and how many can show up on a single day. Here's how the 18-person approved visitor list works at Pasquotank, how updates happen, and what exceptions exist.
At Pasquotank, each offender can have up to 18 approved visitors total. That number includes both adults and minors, so kids count toward the 18 just like grown-ups do. The facility uses this approved list to keep visitation manageable and controlled. Once someone is on the list, they can visit (as long as they also follow the regular visitation rules), but the list itself cannot grow past 18.
Updates to the approved visitor list happen during "open enrollment," which comes around every six months based on the offender's admission date. So if someone's admission month is January, their open enrollment windows fall in July and January. Timing matters most when the list is already full. Once an offender hits the 18-visitor maximum, they can't adjust the list again until the next open enrollment period. And if they're already at 18, adding a new person means removing someone else first.
The 18-person limit covers the overall approved list, but there's also a per-visit cap. Under normal circumstances, no more than three approved visitors can be with an offender during a single session. These two rules work together. Think of the 18 as your pool of approved people, then the three-person rule as the cap for any one visit. The warden can adjust how many approved visitors are allowed in a session based on operational and space considerations, so the day-of limit may shift in some situations.
Clergy visits work differently from regular family and friend visits. Clergy visitors must complete form DC-949P and be approved before they can visit with an offender. Here's a helpful detail if you're coordinating with a pastor, chaplain, or other clergy member: approved clergy do not count toward the offender's 18 approved visitors.
