How to schedule and prepare for your first in-person visit at Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center (PICC)

Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center (PICC) is located at 8301 State Rd. In-person visiting runs Monday through Friday, with three time slots to choose from: 9–10 a.m., 1–2 p.m., and 3–4 p.m. Each time slot has limited space - up to ten visits per slot - so it helps to pick a backup time in case your first choice is already full.

Visits must be scheduled in advance, and timing matters. Appointments are first-come, first-served. You can book between 48 hours and seven days before your visit date - so if you want your preferred slot, book as soon as that window opens.

What to Bring Checkin

  • A government-issued photo ID to show at check-in
  • The incarcerated person’s name
  • The incarcerated person’s ID number

Dress code matters: PICC enforces a dress code, and if you don’t comply, your visit will be canceled.

Arrive at least ten minutes early. That buffer gives staff time to check your ID and process you without any last-minute scrambling.

  • Use the lockers in the visiting area to store your belongings after check-in
  • Bring quarters for the lockers (there is no change machine in the waiting room)

You'll go through screening before seeing the person you're visiting. First, a metal detector - similar to airport security. Then staff will conduct a search in a private room.

  1. Go through screening - You’ll need to pass through a metal detector.
  2. Follow staff to a private room - An officer will search each visitor in a private room.
  3. Be prepared for instructions during the search - The officer may ask you to loosen undergarments to perform the search.
  4. Speak up if something feels improper - Ask to speak to a supervisor, or contact the Office of Community Justice Outreach (CJO) at (215) 685-8909 or (215) 685-7288.

Hoping for a weekend visit? Saturday slots at Philadelphia Department of Prisons facilities, including PICC, are reserved for designated populations. That limits availability for the general public, so plan around the weekday schedule when possible.

Holiday visits are limited. In-person visits are only allowed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
