Video Visits vs. In-Person Visits at Piedmont Correctional: Which Option Is Right for You?

Video Visits vs. In-Person Visits at Piedmont Correctional: Which Option Is Right for You?

NCDAC lets you visit either in person or through video, which makes staying in touch more manageable. The catch? They work differently. In-person visits require an appointment. Video visits run through an app and can be scheduled ahead or started on-demand. Once you know your schedule, travel situation, and comfort level, picking the right option gets easier.

Video Visits vs. In-Person Visits at Piedmont Correctional: Which Option Is Right for You?

Video visits aren't open to everyone with the app - only people on the incarcerated person's approved visitors list can use them. If you haven't been approved yet, that's the first step before video visiting becomes an option.

Once you're approved, video visits happen through the Getting Out Visits app. You'll use it to conduct your visit and, if you prefer, schedule one in advance rather than coordinating by phone or email.

Tip: Planning to video visit from home? Make sure you have a computer with internet access, a webcam, a microphone, and a recent web browser.

In-person visits through NCDAC are by appointment only. You'll need to call or email the prison directly to schedule one.

Video visits offer more flexibility. Through the app, you can start one on-demand or schedule it for a specific date and time. That's a big help if you're juggling work, childcare, or a long drive.

Note: Have an in-person visit scheduled? Call the prison the day before to confirm the facility's visitation status.

Choose Option

  • Choose in-person if you can make the trip and you’re able to schedule an appointment by calling or emailing the prison.
  • Choose video if travel is hard right now and you’re comfortable using the Getting Out Visits app.
  • Choose video if you need flexibility - video visits can be on-demand or scheduled for a future time.
  • Choose either option knowing NCDAC supports both; what works best often comes down to your schedule, transportation, and how reliable your internet and device setup is.
