What If Your Loved One Is in Segregation or Control Status? How Visits Change at Piedmont Correctional
If your loved one at Piedmont Correctional is on administrative segregation, disciplinary segregation, or control status, visits change in two major ways: they become non-contact, and you'll need to schedule them in advance. Don't expect a standard contact visit in the regular visiting room - these statuses restrict visits to non-contact only, by appointment.
Note: The non-contact restriction for “control status” does not include protective control.
Security Threat Group (STG) validation can also affect what kind of visit you're allowed. At Piedmont, the rules vary by STG level - and the options below apply only to approved immediate family members. STG Level 2 validation may still allow contact visits with approved immediate family. STG Level 3? Visits are limited to non-contact.
- ✓ STG Level 2: Contact visits with approved immediate family members
- ✓ STG Level 3: Non-contact visits with approved immediate family members
- Confirm you’ll need an appointment - In-person visits are by appointment only, and that matters even more when your loved one is in administrative/disciplinary segregation or control status, because those visits are restricted to non-contact and must be scheduled.
- Call or email the prison to schedule - Set up the visit by contacting the prison where your loved one is housed and requesting an appointment time.
Tip: Call the day before your scheduled visit to confirm the facility’s visitation status, since conditions can change.
Even after you've scheduled, visiting conditions can shift. The warden has authority to adjust visit times, frequency, duration, and the number of visits allowed - based on security needs or day-to-day operational issues.
