How to Schedule an In-Person Visit at Pierce County Jail

Visiting someone at Pierce County Jail works differently than most jails: the inmate schedules the visit, not you. Once you understand that, the rest comes down to timing and bringing the right ID.

How to Schedule an In-Person Visit at Pierce County Jail

At Pierce County Jail, in-person visits are inmate-initiated. The person in custody schedules their own visits and tells you when to come - including any changes, cancellations, or rescheduled times. Inmates can schedule visits up to seven days in advance. Coordinate directly with them to confirm the exact day and time before you head out. You can't book it yourself.

Pierce County Jail doesn't allow visitor sign-up on the day of visiting. Walk-up, same-day visits aren't an option - if you show up hoping to get added to the list, you'll be turned away.

Since the inmate controls scheduling and can only book up to seven days out, confirm your appointment with them ahead of time. Treat that appointment as required. Showing up without one won't get you in.

Even with an appointment, you still need to check in during the sign-up window. It opens 45 minutes before the visit starts and closes 15 minutes before. Arrive too early and you'll wait. Arrive too late and you'll miss the cutoff.

Visits last one hour. The jail runs a tight schedule, so missing the sign-up cutoff means you lose your chance to visit that session.

Warning: If you arrive late or you don’t have a visiting appointment, you will be turned away. Give yourself extra time so you can get signed in before the window closes.

ID Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • State identification card
  • Other official identification that includes a picture, physical description, and signature

Cancellations have to come from the inmate. They can cancel up to 24 hours before the scheduled visit. If the cancellation happens less than 24 hours out, it still counts as a visit. If there's any chance your loved one can't make it, talk about it early - last-minute cancellations use up a visit slot.
