Staff at Pierce County Jail can terminate your video visit if they consider your clothing sexually suggestive or inappropriate. All video visits are monitored, so what you wear on camera matters just as much as it would in person.

  • Clothing that shows an undue amount of flesh on the chest
  • Clothing that shows an undue amount of flesh on the back
  • Clothing that shows an undue amount of flesh on the thigh
  • Clothing that shows an undue amount of flesh on the midsection

Video visits are monitored for rule compliance. Treat the call like a formal visit: stay on camera, keep your surroundings clean and appropriate, and avoid anything that could look like a conduct violation.

  • Any display of nudity
  • Behavior or actions that are sexual in nature
  • Encouraging inappropriate behavior such as 3-way visits through FaceTime or other social apps
  • Using or displaying any weapons
  • Using or displaying drugs, alcohol, or related paraphernalia
  • Using gang signs
  • Displaying graphics or paraphernalia associated with a Security Threat Group
  • Recording or filming the visit or any visit participants (by you or any third party)
  • Participating in a video visit while driving a motor vehicle

Since video visits are monitored, staff can observe and document rule violations. If they spot inappropriate clothing or behavior, they can end the visit on the spot. Violations can also affect your ability to schedule future video visits.

Violating the video visit code of conduct can get you restricted from visiting for six months. Even quick issues count, like a brief recording attempt or something inappropriate appearing on camera.

Note: The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reserves the right to restrict visitation of any person for any reason indefinitely.

Practical Checklist

  • Dress conservatively for the camera, avoid showing an undue amount of chest, back, thigh, or midsection
  • Keep weapons, drugs, alcohol, and any related paraphernalia completely out of view
  • Do not record or film the visit, and do not let anyone else record it either
  • Remind everyone involved that the video visit is monitored, so keep behavior and surroundings appropriate for the entire call
