Visitation

What to Bring (and What to Know) for an In-Person Visit at Pierce County Jail

A smooth visit at Pierce County Jail comes down to a few basics: the right ID, showing up during the sign-up window, and knowing the rules that can stop a visit before it starts.

Bring an approved photo ID and have it ready at check-in. No approved ID? Expect to be turned away.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • State identification card
  • Other official photo ID that includes a physical description and signature

Plan your arrival around the onsite sign-up window. Sign-up opens 45 minutes before the visit and closes 15 minutes before it begins. Arrive too early and you will wait around. Cut it too close and you risk missing your window entirely.

Warning: Show up late or without a visiting appointment, and you will be turned away.

Visits last one hour. Build your day around that window, plus extra time for check-in and getting out afterward.

Bringing a child? Only a parent, grandparent, or documented legal guardian may accompany a minor to visit an inmate.

  • With one adult: up to two children may visit
  • With two adults: only one child may accompany them
  • No more than two adults may visit at one time

Critical warning: All visitors are checked for warrants and no-contact orders. If you have a warrant, you will be arrested when you arrive.

Take that screening seriously. If there is any chance you have an outstanding warrant, or if a no-contact order might apply to the person you want to visit, handle it before you go to the jail.

Quick Previsit Checklist

  • Bring an approved photo ID for check-in
  • Arrive during the sign-up window (45 minutes before the visit until 15 minutes before it begins)
  • Do not attempt to visit if you have an outstanding warrant or are subject to a no-contact order
  • If a minor is coming, make sure the child is accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or documented legal guardian
