What to Expect During the Booking Process at Pinellas County Jail
Booking can move fast, and from the outside it often feels confusing. Here's what Pinellas County Jail documents about the intake process: the medical screening, how money is handled, the ID card rule, and what gets issued once someone reaches permanent housing.
When someone arrives at booking at Pinellas County Jail, one of the first steps is a medical screening. This helps staff identify any immediate health concerns. During that screening, the jail advises people to tell staff about any special medical or emotional needs. If there's an emergency medical issue, the person in custody should contact a deputy right away so the appropriate medical staff can be notified.
At booking, any money found on the person is normally credited to their personal inmate account. They won't keep cash on them while in custody. One exception: foreign coins and foreign or contaminated paper money are not credited to the account. Those items go into the person's personal property instead.
As intake continues, each inmate or detainee receives an identification card. At Pinellas County Jail, that ID card must be worn at all times on the chest area (not on the sleeve), with the photograph visible. If your loved one mentions "their ID," this is usually what they're talking about. It's a daily requirement inside the facility, and staff expect it to be visible and worn correctly.
