What to Bring (and What to Leave Home) for Your First Visit to Placer Jail (Auburn & South Placer)

Check in at least 30 minutes before your scheduled visit time. Screening takes longer than you'd expect, and showing up "right on time" can still mean missing your slot.

At both Auburn Jail and South Placer Minimum Security, in-person visits last 30 minutes total. Only one adult can sit at the visiting station at a time, so if multiple adults are coming, decide beforehand how you'll split the time.

Bring a photo ID from the jail's accepted list: driver's license, military ID, passport, immigration card, or state ID card (with photo). Expired IDs are okay if they're less than two years expired and the photo still looks like you - staff will compare it to your face at check-in.

You'll walk through a metal detector. Remove watches, chains, and anything else metal before you step up so you don't set it off.

Note: Visitors can be searched by sheriff’s personnel while on the premises. If you refuse a search, you can lose visiting privileges or have a visit ended.

Keep your group within the jail's limits: either two adults and one minor child, or one adult and two minor children. No more than three total visitors per inmate, per visit.

In-person visits at Auburn Jail and South Placer Minimum Security last 30 minutes. If multiple adults come, you'll split that time and take turns at the visiting station.
