Understanding TDCJ's Digital Mail System: Where to Send Letters to Lucile Plane State Jail

As of September 6, 2023, Lucile Plane State Jail uses TDCJ's digital mail platform. Your letters go to a processing center where staff sort and scan them. The recipient reads your mail on their secure tablet - not on paper.

Send personal letters to the TDCJ digital mail processing center - not the jail itself. Include the person's full first and last name plus their TDCJ number. Here's the exact format: Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inmate's Full First and Last Name + TDCJ Number PO Box 660400 Dallas, TX 75266-0400

• ✓ Include the inmate’s TDCJ number
• ✓ Address it to: PO Box 660400, Dallas, TX 75266-0400
• ✓ Put your return address on the envelope

A few things still go directly to the unit: legal mail, media mail, and books, magazines, packages, or subscriptions from verified publishers. Don't send these to the digital processing center.

1. Identify what you’re sending - Personal letters go through the digital processing center; legal mail, media mail, and books/magazines/packages (including verified publisher subscriptions) are exceptions.
2. If it’s an exception, send it to the unit - Those items should be mailed directly to Lucile Plane State Jail (not the Dallas PO Box).
3. Follow the unit’s rules for that item - Exception items still have to meet TDCJ/unit requirements to be accepted.
