How to Address Mail to an Inmate at Pocahontas Correctional Center
Start the address with the incarcerated person’s first and last name. Using their full name helps mailroom staff match your letter to the right person, especially when people have similar names.
Next, include the inmate’s 7-digit state ID number on the address. That ID is one of the fastest ways for the facility to route your mail correctly, so don’t leave it off.
Finish the address with the facility name, plus the facility’s mailing address and ZIP code. If any part of that’s missing - especially the ZIP - your mail is more likely to be delayed or returned.
At Pocahontas Correctional Center, all incoming general correspondence gets photocopied. Your loved one receives the copy - not the original letter, card, or photo you sent.
Note: The original envelope and everything inside it - including personal photos - will be shredded after it’s photocopied. Don’t send anything you need back or can’t replace.
There’s also a delivery limit: a maximum of three 8.5" x 11" black-and-white photocopied pages per mailing, counted front and back. That limit includes a copy of the envelope as one of those pages, so keep your letter short and avoid stuffing extra pages inside.
If you include photos, expect them to be scanned and delivered as copies. The originals won’t make it to the inmate - the facility shreds the original contents after photocopying.
Allowed Prohibited
- ✓ Money of any kind (checks, cash, or other items of monetary value)
- ✓ Contraband or anything that isn’t allowed under facility rules
If you’re trying to help with funds, don’t put money in the envelope. For VADOC facilities, money orders with a deposit slip are sent to JPay at P.O. Box 278170, Miramar, FL 33027. Once JPay receives the money order, the funds are typically available to the inmate within three business days.
Before mailing, confirm the exact address and ZIP code on the official VADOC facility contact page. Addresses occasionally change, and using outdated info can delay or return your letter.
