Before Your First Visit to PWCC: What You Can and Cannot Bring
Your first visit to PWCC goes smoother when you handle the basics before leaving home. This quick guide covers how to confirm you're approved to visit and what you can actually bring inside.
Before you visit PWCC, take a few minutes to read the facility's Visiting Rules. They cover what you can bring, what stays behind, and what might get you turned away at the door.
- ✓ Submit a visiting application before you try to visit PWCC.
- ✓ Complete the required background check as part of the approval process.
- ✓ Do both steps before you make the trip, since you must be approved before visiting.
Note: PWCC visiting schedules can change due to emergencies. Verify the schedule before you travel so you don't make the drive for nothing.
Planning to use the vending machines? Bring coins or a debit card. Paper money isn't allowed in PWCC visiting rooms, so cash bills won't help you once you're inside.
- ✓ Coins in clear plastic bags (for vending machine purchases)
- ✓ Debit card (if applicable for vending)
- ✓ Credit card (if applicable for vending)
Don't bring outside food into PWCC visiting areas. That includes the small stuff people forget about, like gum and candy.
Pictures aren't allowed in PWCC visiting areas. This includes printed photos and digital keychain photo viewers.
- ✓ Oils of any kind, including religious oils
- ✓ Can openers
- ✓ Sunglasses
- ✓ Documents of any kind
- Do a quick bag and pocket check before you leave - make sure you are not carrying outside food (including gum or candy), pictures (including electronic picture viewers), oils (including religious oils), can openers, sunglasses, or documents.
- Leave anything questionable behind - if an item falls into one of the banned categories, keep it at home or secured in your vehicle instead of bringing it up to the entrance.
- Keep what you bring simple - the fewer items you carry, the less likely you are to get delayed over something that is not allowed in the visiting area.
- ✓ Confirm you have completed the visiting application and background check before you go.
- ✓ Review PWCC’s Visiting Rules again the day of your trip.
- ✓ Verify the visiting schedule before traveling, since it can change due to emergencies.
- ✓ If you plan to use vending, bring coins in clear plastic bags or use a debit or credit card (if applicable).
