Scheduling Rules and Evening Cutoffs for Polk County Video Visits: What to Know
Polk County Anywhere video visits (through the Securus system) run in three daily blocks: 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Knowing those windows upfront saves you from picking a time that falls outside the available schedule. You can book visits up to 14 days in advance, which is helpful if you want to lock in a specific day or time. Each inmate is allowed Anywhere visits twice per week. Each video visit lasts 20 minutes, so pick a time when you can be logged in and ready to go right at the start.
The evening block is listed through 10:30 p.m., but there's a practical cutoff built into the schedule. The last video visit can begin at 9:40 p.m. and must end by 10:00 p.m. That 9:40 p.m. rule changes what "late evening" really means. If you're trying to schedule as late as possible, you're working inside a much narrower window with little buffer for signing in, handling tech issues, or running a few minutes behind. If late evening is your only option, aim for an earlier start time within the 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. block. That way you can use the full 20 minutes without feeling rushed.
Keep the clock in mind: A visit starting at 9:40 p.m. still has the same 20 minute limit, but it also has to wrap up by 10:00 p.m. There's no extra room to run late.
Polk County's scheduling rule is strict: all visit creations, changes, and cancellations require 24 hours' notice, and they must be completed by 6:00 p.m. the day before the scheduled visit. Treat that 6:00 p.m. cutoff as a hard deadline. If you're trying to book a last-minute visit or need to move your time, waiting until the evening before can put you past the point where the system accepts changes. If your schedule might shift, it's usually safer to pick a time you're confident about, then make any updates well before 6:00 p.m. the day before.
Missing the 24-hour requirement can cost you more than convenience. Polk County notes that changes made within the system that do not allow for a 24-hour advance notice, once the appointment has been made, will result in the original appointment being counted as one of the inmate's allotted visits for the week. In plain terms: if you try to adjust too late, you may lose the slot you originally held and still have it count against the weekly limit. That's why the 24-hour rule and the 6:00 p.m. day-before cutoff matter so much when you're deciding whether to keep a visit or reschedule it.
Tips and Contact
- ✓ Schedule early when you can, visits may be booked up to 14 days in advance.
- ✓ Make creations, changes, and cancellations at least 24 hours ahead, and finish everything by 6:00 p.m. the day before.
- ✓ Avoid last-minute edits. Changes that miss the 24-hour notice can cause the original appointment to be counted as one of the inmate’s two weekly visits.
- ✓ If you need an evening visit, pick an earlier start time so you are not squeezed by the 9:40 p.m. last-start rule.
