Sending Mail to Polk County Jail: Smart Jail Mail vs. Postal Mail

At Polk County Jail, all written communication goes through Smart Jail Mail. Inmates access it on kiosks in every housing unit. Traditional postal mail isn't delivered anymore (legal mail is the exception), so if you're used to mailing a letter directly to the jail, the process works differently here.

Smart Jail Mail is PCSO's system for inmate written communication. Inmates don't receive regular letters - instead, they read and send messages through kiosks in all housing units. Friends and family write through the same system.

Note: Inmates at Polk County Jail will not receive regular postal mail. Legal mail is the exception.

Smart Jail Mail uses a credit-based system. Each message costs 50 service credits, which works out to 50¢ (1 credit = $0.01).

Photos cost extra. Each one runs 100 service credits - that's $1.00 per photo.

  1. Write the inmate’s name and ID number clearly on the outside - this is required so the mail is posted to the correct current account.
  2. Address your envelope or postcard to the PCSO scanning PO Box - use this exact format:
  3. PCSO-CO SC
  4. INMATE NAME-ID NUMBER
  5. PO Box 1848
  6. Pinellas Park, Florida 33780
  7. Mail it knowing it will be digitized - PCSO will scan the correspondence and then email it to the inmate through Smart Jail Mail.
